DEVOLUTION OF AGRICULTURE

   

According to the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (August 2001) under section 14 and 35 (Part-A) the activities of Agriculture Extension, On Farm Water Management have been decentralized.

According to Part-C the setup of Agriculture is :
“Agriculture (Extension), Livestock, Farm Water Management, Soil Conservation, Soil Fertility, Fisheries and Forests.”

District Organogram of Agriculture was approved by the Honourable Governor Sindh on 12-10-2001.

Provincial Organogram was approved by the Honourable Governor Sindh on 04-06-2002.

Activities of Extension Wing i.e. Human Resource Development, Planning, Monitoring, Coordination, collecting and compilation of Agriculture Statistics, regulation of Pesticides, Fertilizer, and Seed distribution and regulation, Training through various means, including Mass Media, Agriculture Marketing, Information, Enforcement of Provincial Agriculture Laws will continue at provincial level.

3379 (83%) staff members of Extension Wing have been devolved to District Governments.

16 EDO Offices have been created by surrendering the posts from Extension Wing.

According to approved provincial setup the activities of On Farm Water Management will be carried out both at provincial and district level.

All Annual Development Program, Khushhal Pakistan Program and DERA Schemes will be implemented at district level and all the Foreign Aided Projects at provincial level.

228 (46%) staff of Water Management has been transferred to district governments in 04 districts i.e. Hyderabad, Naushehro Feroze, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur.
