BRIEF:-
In Sindh, the area and production of Mattar (Rabi Pulses) crop for the year 2004-05 is finally assesed at 55976 Hectares and 27655 M.Tons, as compared to 67971Hectares and 36619 M.Tons of last year's final estimate, which shows a decrease of 17.65% in area and 24.48% in production.
The reasons of decrease in both area and production are as under:

AREA:-
1. Paddy crop is cultivated on less area on which residual moisture Mattar is cultivated as dobari crop.
2. No inundatino in River Indus, caused decline in area, where this crop is cultivated as bosi.
3. The growers switched-over the Mattar crop area towards Wheat crop, due to better market rate of WHeat grain.
