HYDERABAD (March
20 2007): Sindh Agriculture Department is establishing an Agricultural
Professional Development Centre (APDC) at Sakrand to impart training
to the officers and field staff of Agriculture Extension Service.
A spokesman of Sindh
Agriculture Department said here on Sunday that the information was
given by the Director General, Agriculture Extension, Sindh, Naeem Ahmed
Korejo, to a three-member team of the Standing Committee of Sindh Assembly
on Food and Agriculture at Sakrand on the third day of its visit of
the province.
The three MPAs comprising
the committee included Haji Anwar Ahmed Mahar, Haji Munawwar Ali Abbasi
and Talib Imam. The main objective of the scheme, to be started in 2007-2008,
is to empower both field staff and farming community with agricultural
skill and knowledge.
The spokesman said
during their three-day visit, the Provincial Assembly Members' team
went round demonstration plots, field offices of agriculture extension,
pesticides quality testing laboratory, food grain godowns and held meetings
with officials of Agriculture Department Extension and Food Departments
at Larkana, Sukkur, Rohri and Sakrand.
In a meeting with the
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Larkana, the team underlined the need
for establishment of guava development and processing centre and rice
by-products industries in the area to exploit full potential of the
crops grown there.
The team also laid
emphasis on setting up of modern rice processing plants to produce exportable
quality rice, which can fetch higher returns to paddy farmers.
